The United States Army conducted operational tests at the Yakima Training Center in Washington with an experimental version of the Stryker combat vehicle equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon.
Soldiers from the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team participated in a week of live-fire exercises, both day and night, in a fully operational environment as part of the U.S. Army’s modernization efforts.
During the training, crews integrated digital command and control tools such as the Operational Network and the Digital Range Training System, which allowed them to record engagements, track vehicle positions, and assess performance in real time.
According to the Army, the new 30mm system requires greater crew coordination, as teams operated advanced sensors, modern optics, and fire control software while maintaining situational awareness in both offensive and defensive scenarios.
Troops involved in the tests highlighted the versatility and complexity of the new weapon, capable of employing different types of ammunition and enhancing the Stryker’s firepower. Officers overseeing the exercise stated that the crews’ rapid adaptation demonstrates the platform’s potential to transform how mechanized infantry units conduct operations in the future.
